Wikipedia

  • One of the most popular variations of the original song is What Child Is This?, a traditional Christmas carol which has different lyrics set to the melody of Greensleeves. This religious connotation may have been a reason for its inclusion in Xenosaga Episode I.
  • One popular interpretation of Greensleeves' lyrics is that subject was a prostitute. Given that Mary Magdalene has historically been portrayed as a prostitute, this may be another possible reason for the song's inclusion in Xenosaga.
