Galahad Fortress is an area on Mechonis in Xenoblade Chronicles. Built on Sword Valley, it is a strategic position in the war between the Mechon and the Homs.

Geography[edit]

Little can be said regarding the literal geography of the fortress, aside from its location upon the hilt of the Mechonis' Great Sword. It was constructed to both serve as a forward base for the Mechon invasion of Bionis, as well as drawing in the Bionis' ether from where the sword's blade wedged in the Bionis' side, depriving the Titan of energy and providing a source of it for the Mechon. Much of the fortress is centered around this function; rivers and pools of liquid Ether, pumps, turbines, and all manner of mechanical parts intended to bleed the Bionis dry. Aside from its energy production capabilities, the fortress serves as more of a storehouse and maintenance facility for Mechon, rather than a place of manufacture, as several rooms in the top levels of the fortress are thoroughly packed with Mechon.

Story[edit]

After the battle atop Prison Island and their meeting with Face Nemesis on Valak Mountain, the party heads for Galahad Fortress to stop Egil and rescue Fiora. Passing through Sword Valley, they sneak into Galahad Fortress through a service entrance along the ether stream. As they make their way through the fortress, they sabotage the fortress's ether pumping systems to aid the allied forces.

Reaching the lower levels of the fortress, the party finds Face Nemesis and tries to talk with Fiora, but she attacks them, seemingly not acknowledging them. She forces them to the lowest level, where Egil, controlling his gold-faced Mechon, is waiting. He activates a device within the Mechonis that disables the Monado, and explains that he is controlling Face Nemesis against the will of its pilot. He fights the party with the two faces, but Fiora manages to take back control of her Mechon and fights Egil herself, their struggle eventually triggering a series of explosions throughout the fortress. The party and an unconscious Fiora are sent falling toward the sea below as the floor collapses while Egil escapes.

Galahad Fortress, along with the rest of Mechonis, is ultimately destroyed by Zanza using the Bionis' Monado.
