Vector First R&D Division

Referred to as "First Division" amongst Vector employees.

Its origins date back to a joint venture by the government and private sector to manage the U.M.N. Although it now functions as a department within a corporation, it has retained its original title of "Division."

After relegating the management of the U.M.N. to the government, the Division's primary function has been the development of various computer chips and supporting software for industrial supercomputer A.I.s.

The KOS-MOS R&D project, to which Shion and her team are assigned to, sought to develop an emotively controlled OS.

The department within Vector that handles KOS-MOS and IT software development.

The department devoted to the research and development of many types of software, from KOS-MOS (a project headed by Shion's group) to the IT software that is KOS-MOS's control program. Commonly referred to as First Division.

Originally, it was involved with U.M.N. administration as a joint government-private sector business; the Structure Law devised by Carnegie, its supervisor at the time, led to the further grow of the U.M.N..

Since the U.M.N. administration bureau was transferred to the government, its primary tasks have become the development of industrial-use super-AIs, computer chips, and the software that comes with them.
