Ever Come to an End is Disc 4, Track 9 in the Xenoblade2 Original Soundtrack and Disc 9, Track 9 on the Xenoblade Chronicles Original Soundtrack Trinity Box.

It plays in Theosoir and Theoscaldia Palace during the day.

Lyrics[edit]

The final line of the English lyrics only plays on the soundtrack, never in game, as the in-game music loops over the penultimate line. The piece also has official Japanese lyrics according to the booklet of the Xenoblade Chronicles Original Soundtrack Trinity Box, as follows. Curiously, and uniquely to this track among the booklet's Japanese lyrics, these are significantly different in meaning from the English lyrics used in the song.

English lyrics[edit]

Shadows of the lowland leading to the cold and darkened days
Without any hope, without a light for long
Will this suffering ever come to an end one day...?

Even so, pride keeps us strong today, glory will be with us
Now the time has come to fight and seize the day
When will our prayers be heard high up in the sky above?
Soon fate will show us the place where we belong

Suddenly, a gleam of dawn
Can you feel the power of faith?
Our native land, here we stand as one

Shadows of the lowland leading to the cold and darkened days
Our path...

Literal translation[edit]

Tantal, People of Light
Hiding at the Bottom of the Cloud Sea
Enduring for Many Months and Years
Peoples Looking Up at the Lightless Sky
Now, Towards the Light-Shining Heavens

Tantal, People of Light
Renowned Hero(es) of Dawn
Peoples Descended from That Blood
Today, That Time has Come
Now, Towards the Light-Shining Heavens

Original text

For this piece, which plays in the mysterious snow-covered town of the Kingdom of Tantal,[1] I knew from the start I wanted to tackle it as a vocals only track. Since 20 years ago I knew I wanted to work with the Irish choral group ANÚNA someday, and after a chance encounter,[2] I knew that this piece had to be sung by them. I took the parts of me that had been touched by ANÚNA’s sound and let the melody flow out from there.

Notes[edit]

  1. Despite Theosoir having a distinct name in both English and Japanese, Mitsuda consistently refers to it as “the town of the Kingdom of Tantal,” as though its name is Kingdom of Tantal.
  2. From ANÚNA’s site:
“In 2016 that I met a composer who whose work I already knew while I was in Japan, the legendary Yasunori Mitsuda. I had no idea that he knew my own work. [...] We were in Japan on tour in 2017 and our schedule allowed for a session with Brian Masterson and Mitsuda’s team in Tokyo. The recording was very special. Here was a visual composer, like myself, who has a vision for the music he wants to create that closely equates to external visual stimuli.”
