E.S.
Ein Sof, typically shortened to E.S., are humanoid mobile weapons from the Xenosaga series that have been loaded with a Vessel of Anima.
Technology and Usage[edit]
While E.S. are not of a significant size difference from A.M.W.S. units, they have significantly more fighting ability. Depending on the weaponry equipped and the pilot using them, they have the power to take on an entire division of A.M.W.S. units. The main difference for the difference in power is how the units acquire their energy. A.M.W.S. units derive pulse energy from a mother ship, meaning the condition of the mother ship and their U.M.N. connection have a significant impact on how much power they can use. If an A.M.W.S.'s mother ship is destroyed, it can only operate on its own internal condenser and co-generator and the pilot would be unable to use the full specs of the unit. E.S. units derive their energy from the Zohar via their Vessel of Anima. As such they are not reliant on a mother ship or the U.M.N. and could utilize a limitless amount of energy.
E.S. can be loaded with either a single seat or two-seat cockpit. As such they carry the ability for them to be piloted by multiple individuals, typically with one using the fire controls and one handling the mobility. Those units with two-seat cockpits tend to be those with a large amount of weaponry. All E.S. units operated by Ormus contain a single seat cockpit. An E.S. can only be piloted by an individual who is able to link with the Vessel of Anima and Zohar. The unit would not start up for any individual who is unqualified.
Story[edit]
Episode I[edit]
Albedo pilots E.S. Simeon as his main mode of transportation and is the only E.S. battled in the game. He uses it to destroy a random amount of Gnosis and Federation ships during the battle of the Kukai Foundation. Albedo later uses Simeon to fight the party within the Song of Nephilim. E.S. Naphtali later appears with its pilot, the Blue Testament observing Proto Merkabah.
Episode II[edit]
During the Miltian Conflict, Canaan and chaos were sent down to the streets of Miltia to rescue the remaining U.R.T.V.s and acqure the Y-Data. The two later temporarily abandon Asher to accompany Jin Uzuki in securing a data disc. After fending off Margulis, they return to Asher to rescue Rubedo and Nigredo.
In the present, Margulis gives Pellegri E.S. Issachar for her use. She uses it against Jr., chaos, Ziggy, and MOMO in the streets of Second Miltia. Canaan later fends her off in his E.S. Asher, causing their Vessels of Anima to react to one another. Albedo also continues using Simeon until he unlocks the way to Old Miltia with the Y-Data he acquired from MOMO's Subconscious Domain. As both Second Miltia and the Federation prepare their war with Ormus, Asher was given for Jr.'s use while E.S. Zebulun was given to MOMO. Shion and Allen later steals the E.S. Dinah from the Dämmerung's hangar and heads to Old Miltia themselves. On the way, they came under attack by E.S. Dan and a swarm of T-183 Oculuses. During the battle, KOS-MOS merges the Mobile Dinah Interface with the main craft and successfully fends off Dan.
The party later uses their E.S. to destroy the Ormus Stronghold. On the way out after setting off its self-destruct mechanism, Pellegri and Issachar intercepts them but manages to defeat her and escape. They also used them during the journey to Labyrinthos via the Submerged City and the Ω System. After Patriarch Sergius was defeated, the Testaments and their E.S.s Judah, Naphtali, and Dan arrive and kills Sergius. Jr. later takes Asher to go into the resulting Space-Time Anomaly to confront Albedo alone. In the final scene, Albedo, (now the White Testament) appears with a redesigned Simeon alongside the other Testament's E.S.s as he is welcomed by them.
A Missing Year[edit]
Episode III[edit]
Shion, Jr, MOMO, and Jr. continues piloting Dinah, Asher, Zebulun, and Reuben respectively. Shion Encephalon Dives into Vector S-Line Division using Dinah, with Scientia to steal classified data, but are forced to abandon it after being attacked by Gnosis. Asher, Zebulun, and Reuben later engages Ormus's forces above the Floating Landmass. Jin in Reuben later duels Margulis in his E.S. Levi who later retreats under Heinlein's orders. Shion later departs from Pedea Island and head for Fifth Jerusalem in Dinah.

Gameplay[edit]
Episode II[edit]
Episode III[edit]
E.S. combat have improved from its predecessor; it is much more fast-paced than in Episode II. The Boost gauge has been removed entirely and no E.S. can use Ether. With the return of G and stores, the play can now buy E.S. related items, such as Nanorepairs for healing, armor and weapons.
Anima Awakening[edit]
Whenever an E.S. deals damage, the Anima gauge fills up. Once its full, the player can activate Anima Awakening, granting them the use of a Special Attack. Additionally, the energy requirement for initating attacks are cut by 15%. Anima Awakenings last for two turns. Initially, the player can only use Level I Anima Awakening, but as the story progresses, the player will gain the use to up at least Level III Anima Awakening.

Episode III
E.S.
Humanoid mobile weapon loaded with a Vessel of Anima.
The general term for humanoid mobile weapons loaded with a Vessel of Anima.
Their cockpits can be either single- or two-seat, depending on whether or not
firing control needs to be divided between a pilot and a co-pilot. Most units
equipped with a large amount of weaponry are two-seat; due to their specialized
functionality, Ormus units are single-seat.
The size of an E.S. is not greatly different from that of a standard A.M.W.S.,
but its fighting ability can be an order of magnitude greater. With the right
combination of weaponry and pilot, an E.S. can hold enough combat power to be a
match for a whole division of A.M.W.S. units.
The chief reason given for this is the complete difference in the quality of
the energy it uses for its operation, as well as the method by which that
energy is supplied. A.M.W.S.s, like A.G.W.S.s, operate via pulse energy
transferred from heir mother ship, making them highly reliant on their U.M.N.
connection status and the condition of the mothership. This leads to the amount
of energy that can be supplied in a given amount of time to be necessarily
limited.
This holds especially true when the mothership has been destroyed in battle; in
such a case, basically the only recourse for a unit is to operate using its
internal condenser and auxiliary co-generator. However, since the firearms and
logical drive installed in each unit were designed under the assumption they
would be receiving a large supply of pulse energy from a mothership, it becomes
impossible to operate everything at full spec.
On the other hand, since E.S. units operate on energy supplied by the Zohar via
the Vessel of Anima interface, their supply of energy is inherently limitless.
They are not reliant on the status or location of a mother ship, which makes
their operating radius and weaponry they can use in battle practically
unlimited. (Of course, it is rarly the case that they use weaponry so overly
enormous that it severely reduces their mass balance and mobility.)
The only disadvantage is that an unqualified pilot is unable to link the Vessel of Anima with the Zohar and therefore cannot even start up the unit. There are only a very few qualified pilots in the entire galaxy; as a result, E.S. operation seems to be naturally limited to tactical-level operations.
Xenosaga I & II
E.S.
A.M.W.S.はA.G.W.S.
対してE.S.
Trivia[edit]
- All twelve E.S. units are named after the children of Jacob in the Book of Genesis.
