Counterattack (referred to as Action Start before the game's release) is Disc 3, Track 1 on the Xenoblade2 Original Soundtrack, Track 12 on the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Sound Selection, and Disc 8, Track 1 on the Xenoblade Chronicles Original Soundtrack Trinity Box.
It is similar in structure to Engage the Enemy from the Xenoblade Original Soundtrack, and fulfils a somewhat similar purpose as a cutscene theme. Melodies from this track are used as motifs in Loneliness and After Despair and Hope, as well as Carrying the Weight of Life from the music of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Counterattack (Piano Arrange) is an arrangement of the track for solo piano.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2[edit]
- Rex, Pyra, Nia and Dromarch fight Malos on the deck of the Ancient Ship.
- The party uses a water tower to win the fight against Mòrag in Torigoth.
- Mythra awakens at the Olethro Ruins.
- Mòrag fights Rex and Mythra in Alba Cavanich before Niranira steps in.
- Mòrag joins the fight against Patroka and Mikhail in the Old Factory.
- Jin confronts the party in Temperantia.
- Pneuma awakens at the Cliffs of Morytha.
- Rex and Pneuma destroy Indol's amplification towers at the World Tree.
Torna ~ The Golden Country[edit]
- Malos and Addam verbally spar as they fight in Auresco alongside the rest of the party.
- Malos and Mythra call upon their various Artifices as the party fights Malos in the Kingdom of Torna's The Soaring Rostrum.

初代『ゼノブレイド』の「敵との対峙」が、哀しみの 渦にもがき苦しみながら感情を爆発させるイメー ジに対し、今作は前向きで意志を持った力強さを曲に込めました！ レックスの幼いけれど純粋な熱い気持ちをエレキギターで、ホムラの包み込む優しさと強さをストリングス、また世界を背負ってしまった一人の少女としての繊細な中に宿る凛とした心をピアノに込めて。二人が織りなすストーリーを熱く彩る曲になるよう作曲しました。
Unofficial translation
While "Engage the Enemy" in the original "Xenoblade" was an image of an emotional outburst while struggling in a whirlpool of sorrow, the music in this work is positive, strong-willed, and powerful! Rex's young but pure and passionate feelings are captured by the electric guitar, Pyra's enveloping tenderness and strength by the strings, and the dignified heart of a young girl who has taken on the world on her own back is captured by the piano. I composed this song to passionately color the story woven by the two of them.
