The Conduit as seen in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

The Conduit is a reoccuring object in the Xenoblade Chronicles series. It is a mysterious source of energy.

Appearance[edit]

The Conduit is a large monolith shaped like a wide cross with short side arms. It glows with a brilliant golden light. While being researched by Void, the Conduit glows with a purple light.

Function[edit]

The Conduit appears to possess an infinite amount of energy, is able to warp reality, and can serve as a portal to parallel universes. It is also capable of splitting the planet into two separate worlds.

It is the power source for the Aegises as well as for the World Tree.

The Ghosts seem to be connected with the Conduit as they were awakened when the Ares Prime and its cores were created by its use.

History[edit]

The Conduit was discovered in Africa at the beginning of the 21st century.

A large academic institution known as Aoidos undertook the study of the object aboard the Orbital Ring and uncovered that it possessed an infinite amount of energy as well as being a portal to parallel universes.

The Trinity Processor was created to govern and defend the Conduit.

As part of the scientist Klaus' experiment, he activated the power of the Conduit. As a result, people and things in Klaus' universe disappeared into other universes, splitting the one universe into two, the world of the Bionis, and the world of Alrest. Additionally, it nearly erased all human civilization on Earth, leaving behind the other half, the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 world of Alrest and the Land of Morytha.

After this cataclysmic event, the Conduit apparently went into a hibernative state.

Plot[edit]

In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the party meets the Architect at the top of the World Tree. He reveals that the Conduit has begun to show signs of awakening again. He is also aware that when his other half is destroyed, he will cease to exist in the Alrestian universe. He believes that at this point, the Conduit will disappear from the Alrestian universe.

A short time later, the Architect's prediction comes true. A portal of light appears above the Conduit and it dissolves, causing the collapse of the World Tree.

In Future Redeemed, the Conduit appears in a flashback during Shulk and Rex's narration on how the worlds came to be.

In the ending of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, the Conduit was being researched by a Samaarian scientist named Void as the "ultimate matter". With it, he created the Ares Prime but awakened the Ghosts as a consequence. His fellow Samaarians deemed Void responsible and destroyed the Ares and imprisoned his mind in Volitaris for eternity.

Lore[edit]

Relationship to the Zohar[edit]

Main article: Zohar

The Conduit has many similarities to the Zohar, an object from Xenogears and Xenosaga. While never referred to as "Zohar" anywhere in-game, small pieces of evidence within the data of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 confirm that there is an intended commonality. For example, the same-shaped Core Crystal of the Siren model is named "zohar".

In the Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Collected Works artbook, concept art in the Spoilers section depicts mysterious objects floating towards multiple cross-shaped monoliths in front of an energetic light like a supernova. The objects in the image appear more like the Zohar than the Conduit. This imagery is not used in the game.
