Azurda (セイリュウ) is a supporting character in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Torna ~ The Golden Country. He is referred to as Gramps (じっちゃん) by Rex and Nia[note 1], and as Nuncle (じーさん) by Addam.
While he doesn't directly participate in combat, he does announce whenever enemies change their element mid-combat.
Appearance and personality[edit]
Azurda is a small Titan, only a couple dozen metres long, that resembles a European dragon. He is mostly composed of rock, with grass across his back and long neck, and has several fins and a horn on his head. In his larval form, Azurda takes the form of a tiny white furred dragon with a single horn with a blue core on his chest, pink stubby wings, and ears of the same color.
Azurda acts as a parental figure to Rex, looking out for him and admonishing him when he makes mistakes.
Story arc[edit]
Xenoblade Chronicles 2[edit]
Azurda is the home of Rex, a salvager who makes money by selling things he fetches out of the Cloud Sea. He acts as Rex's guardian and ferry, with the story opening with him taking Rex to the Argentum Trade Guild to sell his wares. Rex then runs off on a job he knows little about, leaving Azurda docked and upset at the kid's shortsightedness. He catches up with Rex as he is fighting Malos on the Ancient Ship, and fights off a mysterious black ship long enough to help him, Pyra, Nia, and Dromarch escape. However, he is badly wounded, and crashes on Gormott.
Rex cries as Azurda's body fades away, but he reappears in a larval form, a tiny white dragon. From there, he sits in Rex's diving helmet and acts as guide on his adventure.
During the finale of the game, Pneuma revert Azurda to his titan form, and he flies Rex and the party away from the crumbling World Tree.
Torna ~ The Golden Country[edit]
During Malos's attack on Auresco, Azurda arrives in time to help defend Addam and his party from the Artifices. However, they are unable to stop Malos from stealing the Tornan Titan's seal orb. He remains hanging around in Torna's Womb, his knowledge of Jin's previous life causing further contemplation of his thoughts and desires over the nature of a Blade.
Azurda is also present during the finale, when Jin burns the old Hyber Village house along with his old possessions, wondering if they will meet again.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3[edit]
Azurda is seen in a photo alongside the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 party as Aionios splits back into the worlds of Bionis and Alrest.
Future Redeemed[edit]
Azurda is mentioned by Rex while he and Shulk are talking about Nikol and Glimmer.
Lore[edit]
- Azurda appears to have had multiple girlfriends over the centuries, most of the time having to take giant loans to offer them gifts.
- His moneylender of choice appears to be the Pyrithium Trade Guild, as he has taken a loan from a guild's member during both 100k in the Red and Nopon Doubloons Ahoy.
- He otherwise resorts to treasure hunting, though it lands him in trouble, as shown during Azurda SOS.
- One of the gifts he gave to one of his past girlfriend appears to have been a mountain of meat and fish, as hinted in one of the Viridian Gate's auto dialogue.
- He seems to have become good friend with Tarath, to whom he tells stories of his past, such as war stories.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
Azurda makes an appearance in the stage Cloud Sea of Alrest in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the main platform. He also has voice lines including ones specific for Pyra and Mythra.
