Ariadne was a planet in the Xenosaga series. It was the home to a Zohar research facility, as well as one of the Zohar Emulators. Ariadne disappeared after the failure of a Link Experiment with the Emulator held there.
Description[edit]
Story[edit]
History[edit]
Years before the events of the games, Andrew Cherenkov lived on Ariadne and was tried for several murders during this time. Each trial resulted in further stages of Personality Reconditioning. Eventually, he was recruited by Margulis to join the U-TIC Organization after killing many of the authorities stationed at the correctional facility where he was held.
Due to a failed Zohar Emulator Link Experiment overseen by Cherenkov in T.C. 4765, a localized Space-Time Anomaly occurred, causing Ariadne to disappear. This disappearance prompted the Galaxy Federation's deployment of the 117th Marine Division to escort the Woglinde in the disappearance's investigation. Cherenkov and various other forces from the U-TIC Organization, including Vanderkam, hid themselves within the 117th Marine Division after their escape from Ariadne.
Episode I[edit]
When the Woglinde finds and retrieves the Zohar Emulator left behind from where Ariadne was, it winds up attracting the Gnosis. As a result, the Woglinde and its accompanying vessels are destroyed. Cherenkov is able to escape with Vector Industries employees who were stationed on the ship, Shion Uzuki and Allen Ridgeley, along with the anti-Gnosis weapon system KOS-MOS.
Later on, Cherenkov gets separated from the others when the ship that rescued them, the Elsa, is drawn into the giant Gnosis known as the Cathedral Ship. It's revealed that this very Gnosis is made up of the planet Ariadne and its inhabitants as the result of a Dimension Shift into Imaginary Space caused by the Space-Time Anomaly. Shion and her companions are rescued by the Elsa once more after they're forced to kill Cherenkov in his newly Gnosified form. The Durandal also arrives, but is unable to hold off the Gnosis. In the end, the Cathedral Ship and the surrounding Gnosis are destroyed when KOS-MOS uses her X-BUSTER to absorb them.
Trivia[edit]
Database[edit]
Episode I
planet Ariadne
A planetary member of the Galaxy Federation which vanished during the Zohar emulator experiment. It had a population of approximately 1.5 billion.
An experimental laboratory owned by the U-TIC Organization was located here. It was also home to Cherenkov after his personality corrective procedure.
Episode III
Planet Ariadne
A Federation planet that vanished in a link experiment involving the Zohar emulators.
A medium-sized (population: 1.5 billion) divided into three sections: a zone
filled with greenery, a zone surging with businesses and research facilities,
and a living space for regular citizens.
The business zone housed the headquarters of a company which focused on the
artificial plant industry. The planet's green zone was dominated by the
artificial plants of the business, and new types of flowers, amongst other
items, were sold to the citizens of the main planets. The "Ariadne Flower,"
with its unique blue petals, was an especially popular product.
However, lurking beneath all of this was an experimental facility owned by
Ormus--the U-TIC Organization.
A link experiment with the Zohar emulators, carried out in this facility under
Andrew's command, caused a space-time anomaly that annihilated planet Ariadne,
turning it into a Gnosis.
This event was later referred to as the "disappearance of planet Ariadne," and the Woglinde was dispatched to investigate it.
Disappearance of Planet Ariadne
Planetary disappearance incident resulting from the Zohar emulators going out of control.
In T.C. 4765, the U-TIC Organization was conducting connection experiments with
the Zohar emulators at their facility on planet Ariadne. However, a space-time
anomaly was produced as a result of the Zohar emulators going out of control,
and Ariadne completely disappeared along with 1.5 billion inhabitants.
While it is unknown why Ariadne had been chosen as the location for the
connection experiments, it was on this planet that the experiments' director,
Andrew, had lived in a sham marriage. Here, he had committed murder repeatedly
and had been placed in a personality reconditioning facility; it may be that he
specifically chose Ariadne to be the land of his martyrdom.
There are confirmed reports of fierce winds on the planet's surface immediately
before its disappearance, as well as lights in the sky similar to a
multi-layered aurora.
It is held that only a small number of spaceships managed to escape, including those owned by the U-TIC Organization; thereafter, Ariadne became a Gnosis Cathedral Ship, made to wander the far reaches of space.

Xenosaga I & II
