Alcamoth is an area in Xenoblade Chronicles and the High Entia capital located on the very top of the Bionis, right above Eryth Sea.

Geography[edit]

Alcamoth is a gigantic, technologically-advanced city floating above Eryth Sea. A transporter beneath the city on the surface of the sea leads into main city area, a giant plaza enclosed within a glass dome decorated with fountains and fields of flowers. Moving floors lead to and from the upper level of the city, where the entrance to the Imperial Palace can be found. It is speculated that Alcamoth's large structures were built to accommodate the size of its original inhabitants, which may be why in the present day, the city is abnormally grand relative to the people that now reside there.[1][2]

Past the entrance to the palace, the Great Hall features statues of the High Entia Forefathers and and a mural depicting the ancient battle between the Bionis and Mechonis. A transporter at the back of the room leads to the upper level high above the city's dome, where the royal Audience Chamber is found.

Story[edit]

Xenoblade Chronicles[edit]

Alcamoth was created by the High Entia following the battle between the Bionis and Mechonis.[3]

The party is guided by Melia across Eryth Sea to Alcamoth's main transporter, where she instructs them to wait. As Melia goes on ahead to report her mission's success and request permission to enter Prison Island, the rest of the party are taken into custody by High Entia guards. Melia reports the outcome of her mission to Emperor Sorean, during which she is told by Prince Kallian that Shulk and the others have been detained due to carrying the Monado, and that they will be interrogated by divine seer to gauge their motives.

Meanwhile, as the party discusses their confinement, they are confronted by Alvis, who turns out to be the seer. Alvis tells them that the Monado is the reason they are being held and that he will ensure their release. While the party helps with a situation in Eryth Sea, Alvis reports back to the emperor, who recognizes that the appearance of the Monado, among other signs, points to the impending reawakening of the Bionis. They move to have Melia's succession accelerated by having her take the trial of the Tomb to earn the favor of the people, which she accepts, and she is then presented to the people as the successor to the throne, while First Consort Yumea sets in motion plans to have Melia and the party assassinated. Fighting off their assailants, the group heads to the High Entia Tomb to save Melia.

Melia returns from the trial safely with the party's help, and Shulk has an audience with Sorean. Shulk explains their purpose in journeying to Prison Island, but the emperor is uncertain about allowing them to proceed, as what had been sealed on the island may also be linked to the Bionis' awakening. Following this, the Mechon appear and attack Eryth Sea, and the emperor, choosing to fulfill his destined role, departs to Prison Island. Shulk and the party, aware of his fate, follow after him.

In the aftermath of the Mechon attack, the emperor has been killed, and Kallian is named regent while Melia joins Shulk and the others, now seeking to reach Galahad Fortress. Inspired by the party, Kallian gathers Homs and Nopon representatives to Alcamoth to coordinate an attack on Mechonis as a single allied force.

After Zanza is awakened, he initiates the ceremony of destruction and recreation by sending a surge of ether through Alcamoth, transforming the pure-blooded High Entia in the city into Telethia. The survivors that escaped scatter across the Bionis, leaving Alcamoth inhabited by Telethia.

After Zanza's defeat and the collapse of Bionis, Alcamoth is discovered to be located near the remains of the Bionis' Shoulder. In the year following Zanza's defeat, Alcamoth was beset by a creature known as the Fog King which drove out the High Entia survivors, and over time the city fell into ruin. After the Fog King is destroyed, Alcamoth is restored by the combined efforts of the people of Colony 9 and the shoulder.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3[edit]

Alcamoth can briefly be seen during the beginning and ending of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, now located in the vicinity of a large city.

"I wonder why this hall is so big… It takes a long time to walk from one end to another. Plus the ceiling is really high. It bothers me. Perhaps it was necessary to our forefathers who built Alcamoth."

"We learnt from the ancient texts: Ancient High Entia actually saw the Bionis and Mechonis battle. And after the Great Battle was over they started to build this city."
