After Despair and Hope is Disc 5, Track 14 on the Xenoblade2 Original Soundtrack and Disc 10, Track 14 on the Xenoblade Chronicles Original Soundtrack Trinity Box. The main melody is based on a motif from Counterattack.

It plays during both phases of the final boss of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, as well as in the second phase of the Malos fight at The Soaring Rostrum in Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country.

高橋総監督より提示頂いた「進退窮まり、自身の存在意義を求めつつも、戦うことでしか自分を表現できない者の哀しさ」というイメージで書き上げた曲です。サビでは哀しみを帯びつつ強さのあるメロディで「己の身体が崩れ去りながらも、強い意志を持って立ちはだかる孤高の男」を表現しました! 実はお蔵入りとなった曲があり、そちらは主人公目線で書いた曲でした。個人的にはそれもお気に入りだったので、そちらはまたいつかどこかで。
