A Tragic Decision is Disc 2, Track 3 on the Xenoblade Original Soundtrack. It plays during the following instances:
- When Nemesis Face attacks Egil in Galahad Fortress, resulting in the destruction of the fortress in Chapter 11
- During this scene, a unique version of the song plays in which the instruments are slightly different; most notably, the vocals are replaced with strings. This version was never released.
- During the battle against Yaldabaoth in Agniratha, as well as the prior cutscene in Chapter 14
- During the battle against Zanza in the Mechonis Core
- During the battle against Frenzied Bana in Frontier Village during the quest Bana the Betrayer, as well as the prior cutscene

A Tragic Decision (Definitive Edition ver.) is Track 15 on the Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Sound Selection and Disc 3, Track 19 on the Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Original Soundtrack and the Xenoblade Chronicles Original Soundtrack Trinity Box. It is a rerecording of the original with altered balance, mixing, and orchestration, and various added accompaniment lines such as a string line at 1:52. Unlike the original, the entire in-game loop of the track plays in the soundtrack version.
In the base game, it plays in the same instances as the original, except for the Galahad Fortress instance (in which the instrumental version plays).
The track also plays in the following instances in Future Connected:
- During the battle against Diabolical Bana during the quest The Future Within Our Grasp.
- During the battles against the boss Gael'gar as well as Resentful Gael'gar during the quest The Fallen.
