A.M.W.S.
A.M.W.S. (pronounced "aims"), short for Assault Maneuver Weapon System, are humanoid mobile weapons from the Xenosaga series.
Technology and Usage[edit]
A.M.W.S. are used by several governments like the Galaxy Federation and the Immigrant Fleet. They are mostly superior to A.G.W.S., both in cost effectiveness and general purpose, although they lack maneuverability in tight situations. As a result, they are generally inferior in utility to the A.G.W.S. when it comes to combat against Gnosis. While A.M.W.S. models manufactured by Vector Industries are implied to exist, only the VRA-series, manufactured by Hyams Heavy Industries, is referenced by name.[1]
Due to their size, A.M.W.S. units are commonly used as the chassis in the manufacture of E.S. units. When a Vessel of Anima is implanted in an A.M.W.S. unit, it's the pilot's affinity to the Vessel of Anima that determines its compatibility. This process is shown to take a considerable amount of time and resources, as is seen in Pilum and Scutum's transformations into the E.S. Gad and the E.S. Joseph. With a Vessel of Anima implanted, an A.M.W.S. unit's energy supply is near limitless. Otherwise, an A.M.W.S. is no different from an A.G.W.S. in that it is reliant on its U.M.N. connection status to receive pulse energy transferred from its respective mothership. In the scenario where the mothership is destroyed, the survival of an A.M.W.S. pilot is dependent on operating at lower specifications using the A.M.W.S. unit's internal condenser and auxiliary co-generator. A.M.W.S. are designed with the expectation that the unit is receiving a large supply of pulse energy from the mothership, so when this connection is broken, the craft will be impossible to operate if it's operating at full spec.[2]

Episode III
A.M.W.S.
A type of assault weapon developed for non-Gnosis combat.
Short for "Assault Maneuver Weapon System." Pronounced like "aims." A term used for all humanoid assault weapons that work in conjunction with a mothership or escort craft.
Due to a lack of anti-Gnosis equipment, A.M.W.S.s are superior to A.G.W.S.s in both cost-effectiveness and general purpose functionality, and are widely used by the Federation government, autonomous states, the Immigrant Fleet, and other forces.
Within the U-TIC Organization, Richard's Pilum and Hermann's Scutum are both A.M.W.S.s. The unit Jin was piloting during the Miltian Conflict was also an A.M.W.S..
Xenosaga I & II
A.M.W.S.
“Assault Maneuver Weapon System”の略でエイムスと読む。 母艦や護衛機と連動して目標を制圧する人型兵器システムの総称。 対グノーシス用装備が無い分、汎用性やコスト面もA.G.W.S.よりA.M.W.S.の方が勝っているため、連邦政府や自治州、移民船団などの勢力を問わずに実戦投入されている。
Trivia[edit]
- In Xenosaga Episode II, when Margulis is fleeing after his fight against the party in Labyrinthos, the text "ORMUS P.S. JOSEPH" can be seen branded on the chest piece of Scutum's chassis. The "P.S." denomination is likely an indicator of Scutum as an A.M.W.S. unit currently in the process of being converted into an E.S. unit. This is further supported by Xenosaga I & II confirming that Pilum and Scutum both have Vessels of Anima installed when Richard and Hermann first attack the party on Second Miltia. However, in that game they are instead referred to as "E.S. Pilum" and "E.S. Scutum", omitting their tribe designations (names corresponding to one of the children of Jacob in the Bible) due to the crafts not meeting the intended output normally expected from an E.S. unit.[3]
