The 117th Marine Division is a division of the Galaxy Federation's Marine Corps in the Xenosaga series. They and their fleet were put in charge of escorting the cruiser Woglinde in the investigation of the disappearance of the planet Ariadne. To accompany the Woglinde, the fleet includes several Ehime-class destroyers including the Ogetsu, the Odo, and the Takeyori.
Story[edit]
Following the disappearance of the planet Ariadne, the 117th Marine Division was assigned with the task of escorting the cruiser Woglinde, a hastily-built anti-Gnosis ship loaned to the division by Vector Industries, in the investigation of the incident. The division's headquarters, located on the planet Tessedora in the furthest reaches of space from the Federation's capital planet Fifth Jerusalem, were easily compromised by U-TIC Organization spies hoping join the investigation in search of the Zohar Emulator left behind on Ariadne. Among these was Commander Andrew Cherenkov and Lieutenant Commander Vanderkam.
During the Woglinde Disaster, the entire division and its fleet, save for a select few, were wiped out by an onslaught of Gnosis. Having only been equipped with A.G.W.S. units and an unfinished android provided by the Vector personnel onboard the Woglinde, the division was no match for the attack. This was due in part to the division's inability to employ a 100-Series Realian [note 1], despite the Woglinde being equipped with a 100-Series Hilbert Effect amplifier.

Marine headquarters are far removed from the Federation's strategic zone, making it difficult for the Federation to execute proper oversight. The 117th Marine Division had been infiltrated by many people from the U-TIC Organization.
