100-Series Observational Units, also referred to as 100-Series Realians, are a subcategory of Observational Realians in the Xenosaga series immediately following the experimental Kirschwasser test bodies. MOMO Mizrahi is a prototype of the 100-Series, preceding each and every mass produced unit as their "older sister".

Appearance and traits[edit]

As they are designed by the late Joachim Mizrahi, the 100-Series appear as young girls modeled after Mizrahi's late daughter Sakura, but with platinum blue hair and yellow eyes. They are most commonly dressed in light green dress uniforms.

The 100-Series are equipped with powerful sensor arrays, as well as the ability to compute large amounts of data. They are also equipped with the 100-Series System which combines the D.S.S.S. and the Hilbert Effect, allowing them to materialize Gnosis and make them vulnerable. 100-Series Realians, while able to use the Hilbert Effect at small range, are typically paired with a ship's Hilbert amplifier to increase that range. As such, they are often seen on the bridge of ships acting as navigators.

Story[edit]

Although most of the 100-Series' story relevance is relegated to MOMO, many units are seen throughout the games during both gameplay segments and cutscenes.

History[edit]

The 100-Series was originally conceptualized by the late Joachim Mizrahi in an attempt to bring his daughter Sakura back from the dead. To this end, numerous attempts at making a working model went underway onboard Mizrahi's research plant Proto Merkabah, utilizing the data he collected in his work creating the Transgenic Type Realians on Miltia. The failed attempts, referred to as Kirschwassers, continued to live on following the successful creation of MOMO. MOMO, being the 100th attempt at creating this new-model Realian, became the basis for the namesake of the 100-Series.

Following the Miltian Conflict, the Galaxy Federation's newly founded Subcommittee on Close Encounters issued for the mass production of the 100-Series model as an initiative under the umbrella of the Zohar Project. Regardless of any desire to change the appearance of the 100-Series models from a 12-year-old girl, the Contact Subcommittee was ultimately unable to do so, as Mizrahi's design for them was specifically configured for that of a young girl. As a result, the 100-Series' were mass-produced in their originally intended form.[1]

A Missing Year[edit]

One 100-Series of note joins Jin Uzuki in his investigation of the Gnosis terrorism commissioned by the Contact Subcommittee. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, this 100-Series ends up gnosifying during an encounter with a Mysterious Boy who holds a fragment of Lemegeton.

Lore[edit]

  • In Episode I, there is a 100-Series that is seen playing poker in the Durandal's Game Room that is on a winning streak, this 100-Series had apparently been taught to play poker by a Federation soldier nearby.

100-Series Realian

Another name for the 100-Series Observational Units.

The 100-Series System, which combines D.S.S.S. and the Hilbert Effect, is a brand new technology which was only recently developed. The entire system weighs over 10 tons, making it virtually impossible to scale it down to human size. Thus the 100-Series System that was issued to the military consisted of two parts; the main system (a 15m x 15m block resembling a supercomputer), and a mass-produced 100-Series Realian as a terminal device.

This system and the one installed in KOS-MOS share the same technology, leading to speculation that the two are somehow connected.

They are young-looking Realians designed by the late Professor Joachim Mizrahi and based on the MOMO prototype. They were mass-produced by the Contact Subcommittee, a governmental institution of the Galaxy Federation.

In the process of developing his MOMO prototype, Professor Mizrahi manufactured a large number of data-collection test beds called Kirschwasser. MOMO was the 100th model produced.

At present, the 100-Series system requires several dozen tons of system capacity; theory holds that it cannot be miniaturized to human dimensions. The 100-Series System, as used by the Galaxy Federation Army, consists of the Main Unit (a mainframe-like device measuring 10 cubic meters) and a production model 100-Series Realian used as a personal device.

Because the 100-Series system has similar specs to those with which KOS-MOS has been equipped, it is possible there is some sort of connection between them.

As part of the late Professor Joachim Mizrahi's design concept, 100-Series Observational Units resemble young children completely. It is said that, when the Contact Subcommittee took over development after Joachim's death, they carried over the external features to ensure that all of the systems were working properly. Since it was impossible to reconstruct the systems that had been tuned for the youthful bodies, it is more likely that they simply went into mass production as is.
